Founding editor Peter Townsend's first print commission was Elisabeth Kruger’s Hung and drawn and …, 1989 – gracing the March 1990 front cover. Since then, Art Monthly has gone on to commission prints from many of Australia’s leading artists, including Mike Parr (1993), Ken Whisson (1992), Aida Tomescu (1995), Ex de Medici (2008) and Vernon Ah Kee (2012).
